Tridium Niagara 4 has a built in SMS Service that was initially developed for the Niagara AX release of the software.
This SMS Service was reliant on a RS232 connection to a GSM Modem, in Niagara 4 this restricts the use of the Service to JACE controllers fitted with a RS232 expansion card, the Web Supervisor no longer has a Serial Service and does not support the SMS feature as standard. The SMS Service has now been extended to support an IP transport layer allowing an IP enabled cellular modem to be used to send messages (alarms) via SMS. This now supports JACEs, 3rd Party Controllers and Web Supervisors.
All original features and limitations of the SMS Service remain, only the transport mechanism has been extended. As an example, the Tridium SMS service messages (including alarms) are limited to 140 characters, any additional characters above the 140 limit will be cut from the message.
For full information please refer to the SMS Service help documentation provided within the Niagara Workbench.
The extended transport options provided by Tyrrell Products works specifically with the modem supplied in the bundle:
• Webdyn EasyRouter, PSU & 1m CAT5 Cable
• Tridium Niagara 4 SMS Service License
• Tyrrell Products HTTPS Transport License
All you need to provide is a working SIM card with a valid SMS bundle.
