Another significant win through integrated LoRaWAN control, metering, and optimization, powered by IONA!  
 
In a recent Garden Centre project, we worked with our partners to demonstrate how smarter control strategies, better visibility, and connected building data can unlock substantial energy savings.  
How was it done?  
 
An IONA controller powered by Tridium Niagara 4 with embedded LoRaWAN was deployed. LoRaWAN-based energy meters were installed to gain valuable insights into how the building was operating and where improvements could be made by connecting to Tyrrell Analytics.  
Integration with the existing Trend BMS was completed alongside the installation of new LoRaWAN devices to improve heating and ventilation control beyond the BMS’s capabilities and reach.  
 
Through BMS integration into Niagara-based control logic in the IONA controller, the heating plant was enabled on demand and held off when no longer required rather than running on ‘stand-by’.  
 

The project delivered:  

✅ 40% reduction in energy consumption month-on-month  
✅ 14% reduction in energy usage year-on-year  
✅ Greater visibility into plant performance and operational schedules  
✅ Real-time identification of faulty equipment and sensors affecting efficiency  
✅ Improved underfloor heating control based on occupancy, schedules, setpoints, weather forecasts, and outdoor conditions  
✅ Wireless capability for future optimisation using LoRaWAN sensors and LoRaWAN sensors
✅ Reduced run-time for the plant, in turn reducing ongoing maintenance costs 
  
The result was a smarter, more responsive building that consumed less energy while improving overall operational performance and operational feedback.  
 
This project demonstrates how existing building systems, when equipped with our IONA control system, analytics, wireless sensing, and intelligent control strategies, can deliver measurable results without the cost and disruption of a full system replacement.
